Tools You Need to Measure Vertical Blinds

  • A steel tape measure
  • A pencil for marking and writing down sizes
  • A worksheet for keeping a note of your results
  • A step ladder if you are measuring tall windows

Helpful Tips for Accurate Measurements

Always keep width and height measurements separate when writing them down, as mixing them up could cause the blind not to fit properly.

If you are measuring more than one window, never assume they are identical. Measure each one separately and write down the sizes, as even small differences can affect how the blinds fit.

Measuring for Outside Recess

Measure the exact width and height of the area where you want the blind to cover. To reduce light coming through at the edges, it is best to let the blind overlap the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm at each side.

The overlap at the bottom is your choice, but always remember to check for obstacles such as radiators.

Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth ones can stretch or bend and may give the wrong reading.

Measuring for Inside Recess

Take this measurement if you want the blind to sit inside the window recess. Measure the full width and height of the recess (the opening), and we will make the adjustments needed for a neat fit.

Measure in three places for both width and height, and note down the smallest result.

Do not make your own deductions, as we will handle that to make sure the blind fits correctly.

As before, always use a metal tape measure, since fabric ones can stretch and give incorrect figures.

When you receive your vertical blind, please check that you have the following parts included:

Face Fix

Position the brackets about 5cm in from each end of the headrail position. If you have more than two brackets, place the extras evenly along the blind. Check that the fixings are suitable for the type of wall or surface where you are attaching the brackets.

To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it into place. Secure the headrail by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

First, measure and mark the distance needed to avoid handles or any other obstacles that extend into the recess. Place the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail position, which will make sure the blind clears the window handle. If more than two brackets are supplied, fit the others at even gaps along the length of the blind. Always make sure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface where you are mounting the brackets.

To install, tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it until it clicks firmly into place. To remove it, press the bracket release point.
