Tools you will need to measure vertical blinds:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and noting down your sizes
  • A worksheet to record your measurements
  • A ladder, if your windows are tall

Tips for accurate measuring:

  • Do not confuse width and height when writing them down, as mixing them up will result in blinds that do not fit.
  • If measuring more than one window, do not assume they are all the same size. Measure each window separately and record the sizes individually. Even small differences can affect the fit.

Outside Recess

Measure the total area that you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, it is best if the blind extends at least 70mm above the recess and 50mm to each side.

The overlap at the bottom is your choice, but do check for obstructions such as radiators.

Always use a steel tape measure, as fabric tape measures can stretch or bend and give inaccurate readings.

Inside Recess

If you want your blind fitted within the window recess, measure the full width and height of the recess (the “hole” size). We will make the necessary allowances for the best fit.

Measure in three places across the width and height, and note the smallest measurement for each.

Do not make your own deductions – we will handle that to ensure accuracy.

Always use a steel tape measure for reliable results.

Before fitting your vertical blinds, make sure you have the following parts included with your order:

Additional tools and fittings you will need:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with suitable bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A metal tape measure

Face Fix

Position the brackets about 5cm from each end of where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the extras evenly along the length of the blind. Make sure the fixings are appropriate for the wall or surface you are attaching them to.

To install, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it forward into position. Secure it by tightening the small screw located at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

Mark the positions, ensuring that you allow for any obstacles such as window handles that extend into the recess. Place the brackets around 10cm from each end of where the headrail will be fixed, leaving clearance for the handle. If you have more than two brackets, space them out evenly across the blind. Again, check that the fixings are suitable for the surface.

To fit, tilt the headrail into the bracket until it clicks into place. To remove, press the release point on the bracket and the headrail will detach.
