What you will need:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil to note down measurements
  • A worksheet to keep records organised
  • A ladder (for higher windows, if required)

Tips for accurate measurements:

  • Always keep width and height measurements separate. Mixing them up can lead to blinds that do not fit correctly.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, do not assume they are the same size. Measure each one individually as even small differences can affect the fit.
  • Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth ones can stretch and give incorrect results.

Outside Recess Measurement

If you want the blind to hang outside the recess, measure the full area you want it to cover. For the best light control, the blind should overlap the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side. At the bottom, you can choose the overlap, but remember to allow for obstructions like radiators.

Inside Recess Measurement

For blinds fitted inside the recess, measure the complete width and height of the opening. Take three measurements across both width and drop, and use the smallest figures. Do not make deductions yourself – these will be made during production to ensure the blind fits correctly. Again, use a metal tape for reliable results.
