Before ordering, it is important to take accurate measurements.

Tools you will need:

  • A steel tape measure
  • A pencil for marking and recording sizes
  • A worksheet to write down your results
  • A step ladder if measuring tall windows

Tips for accurate measurements:

  • Always record width and height separately, and make sure they are not confused. Mixing them up can cause a blind not to fit.
  • If measuring more than one window, take each measurement individually. Do not assume that similar windows are the same size, as even small differences can affect the fit.
  • Use a metal tape measure, as cloth ones can stretch or bend, giving you the wrong measurement.

Outside Recess Fitting

If you want your blind to sit outside the window recess, measure the full size of the area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, allow the blind to extend at least 70mm above the window and 50mm on each side. The overlap at the bottom is your choice, but consider items such as radiators that may be in the way.

Always use a steel tape measure for accuracy.

Inside Recess Fitting

If you prefer the blind to fit inside the window recess, measure the exact width and height of the recess itself. Take these measurements in three different places across both width and drop, then record the smallest size. Do not make your own deductions – this will be done for you so that the blind fits neatly.

Once again, use a metal tape measure, as fabric ones can stretch and affect the result.

Face Fix Fitting

Position the brackets about 5cm in from each end of where the headrail will go. If extra brackets are provided, space them evenly across the width of the blind. Always check that the wall or surface can take the fixings.

To install, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, then rotate the headrail into place. Secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix Fitting

For top fixing inside a recess, measure and mark the position carefully, allowing clearance for window handles or other obstructions. Fit the brackets around 10cm from each end of the headrail position. If more than two brackets are supplied, space them out evenly along the blind. Always check the surface is suitable for the fixings used.

To install, tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate until it clicks firmly into place. To remove the headrail, simply press the bracket release point and lift it free.
