Tools You Will Need to Measure Vertical Blinds

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil to mark and record measurements
  • Worksheet to note down measurements
  • Ladder (if needed for taller windows)

Tips for Accurate Measurement

  • Keep height and width measurements separate to avoid errors that could cause the blind not to fit.
  • If measuring multiple windows, do not assume they are identical. Measure each one individually. Small differences can greatly affect the fit of your blinds.

Outside Recess

  • Measure the exact area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, it is recommended that the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The bottom overlap can be chosen according to preference, but remember to consider obstacles such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes may stretch or bend and give incorrect readings.

Inside Recess

  • Measure the full width and height of the window recess if the blind is to fit inside it. We will make the necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Take three measurements for both width and drop, and use the smallest figure.
  • Do not make deductions yourself; we will adjust measurements to achieve an accurate fit.
  • Use a metal tape measure for precise results, as cloth tapes can stretch.

Before you start, make sure you have all the parts included with your vertical blind.

Additional Equipment You Will Need

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chain x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Weight x1
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with suitable bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

  • Position the brackets about 5cm from the ends where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are supplied, space additional brackets evenly across the length of the blind. Ensure fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the brackets and rotate it into place. Secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

  • Measure and mark the area, allowing for obstacles such as window handles.
  • Position the brackets approximately 10cm from the ends to avoid interference with window handles. If additional brackets are supplied, space them evenly along the blind. Make sure fixings are appropriate for the wall or surface.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the brackets, then rotate it until it clicks into place. To remove the headrail, press the bracket at the designated point.
