Tools you will need to measure vertical blinds:
Tips for accurate measuring:
Measuring Outside the Recess
Measure the full area that you would like the blind to cover. To reduce light coming through the edges, it is advised that the blind overlaps the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm at each side. The overlap at the bottom can be based on personal preference, but do consider items such as radiators that may get in the way. Always use a metal tape measure, as fabric ones can bend or stretch and may give you the wrong figures.
Measuring Inside the Recess
This method is used when you want the blind to fit within the recess itself. Measure the total width and height of the recess (essentially the size of the opening). We will make the correct allowances to ensure your blind sits neatly. Take three measurements for both the width and the drop, then use the smallest figures. Do not make your own deductions, as these will be applied during production to achieve the correct fit. Use a metal tape measure for accuracy, as cloth ones may stretch.
Make sure you have all the necessary fittings included with your vertical blind:
Face Fix Method
Place the brackets around 5cm from each end of where you plan to fit the headrail. If more than two brackets are supplied, spread them evenly along the blind for balance and support. Ensure the fixings you use are suitable for the wall or surface. Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it forward into place. Tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket to lock it securely.
Top Fix Method
When measuring, make sure you leave space for obstructions such as window handles that may stick out into the recess. Position the brackets about 10cm from each end of where the headrail will go, which will give clearance for the handle. If additional brackets are provided, space them evenly along the blind. Ensure that all fixings are appropriate for the mounting surface. Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate until it clicks into place. To remove the headrail, press the release point on the bracket.
