Tools You Need for Measuring:

  • A metal measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and writing down figures
  • A worksheet to keep your notes organised
  • A ladder for reaching tall windows, if needed

Tips for Accurate Measurement:

  • Always write down the width and height correctly. Mixing them up can result in blinds that do not fit.
  • If you have more than one window, measure each one separately. Never assume all are the same, as even small differences can affect the fitting.
  • For outside recess blinds, measure the full area you want the blind to cover. To cut down on light leakage, let the blind overlap at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on both sides. The bottom overlap is up to you, but remember to allow for objects such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure. Cloth types can bend or stretch, which may lead to errors.

Inside Recess Blinds:

  • Measure the full width and height of the recess if you want the blind to fit inside the window frame.
  • Take measurements in three places for both width and drop, then record the smallest figures.
  • Do not make your own deductions, as we will adjust the size to ensure a neat fit.
  • Again, use a metal tape measure for the most reliable results.

When your vertical blind arrives, please check you have the following items:

Included with the Blind:

  • Two top fix brackets
  • Two face fix brackets
  • One set of hangers
  • One Allen key
  • Two stabilising chains
  • One safety hook
  • Four wood screws
  • One bottom weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with the right bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A metal tape measure

Face Fixing:

  • Place the brackets about 5cm from each end where the headrail will sit. If you are supplied with more than two brackets, spread the extras evenly across the rail. Always make sure your fixings suit the type of wall or surface.
  • To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it into position. Secure it by tightening the small screw at the front.

Top Fixing:

  • Before fixing, measure and mark the correct position, taking note of any handles or fittings that stick out into the recess.
  • Place the brackets about 10cm from the ends of where the headrail will go, which allows clearance for the window handle. If you have more than two brackets, fit the rest at equal spaces across the blind. Again, ensure your fixings are right for the surface.
  • To fit, tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket. Rotate until it clicks firmly into place. To remove, press the release point on the bracket.
