To measure correctly, you will need:

  • A steel tape measure.
  • A pencil to mark and write down measurements.
  • A worksheet to record results.
  • A ladder if you are working with tall windows.

Tips for Taking Accurate Measurements

  • Keep width and height measurements separate. Mixing them up could result in blinds that do not fit.
  • Always measure each window individually, even if they appear to be the same size. Small variations can affect the final fit.
  • Use a steel tape measure rather than a cloth one, as cloth tapes can stretch and give inaccurate readings.

Measuring for Outside Recess

  • Measure the exact size of the area you want the blind to cover.
  • To reduce light leakage, the blind should overlap the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The amount of overlap at the bottom is your choice, but remember to consider obstacles such as radiators.
  • Always use a steel tape measure for accurate results.

Measuring for Inside Recess

  • Measure the full width and height of the recess. We will make the necessary deductions to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Take three measurements across both the width and the drop, then use the smallest measurement.
  • Do not make your own deductions – we will handle this to ensure your blinds fit correctly.
  • Use a steel tape measure, as cloth ones may stretch and cause errors.

Before you begin fitting, check that all the required parts are included.

Equipment and Parts Needed

  • 2 x top fix brackets.
  • 2 x face fix brackets.
  • 1 x set of hangers.
  • 1 x Allen key.
  • 2 x stabilising chains.
  • 1 x safety hook.
  • 4 x wood screws.
  • 1 x bottom weight.
  • Screws.
  • A pencil.
  • A drill with the correct drill bits.
  • A crosshead screwdriver.
  • A steel tape measure.

Face Fix Method

  • Position the brackets around 5cm from each end of the headrail. If more than two brackets are provided, space the additional ones evenly along the length of the blind.
  • Make sure the fixings are appropriate for the surface you are attaching them to.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix Method

  • Mark your fixing points, leaving enough clearance for any window handles or obstacles within the recess.
  • Place the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail so that handles are not obstructed. If more than two brackets are supplied, distribute the extra ones evenly.
  • Ensure your fixings are suitable for the surface being used.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it until it clicks into place. To release, press the bracket at the release point.
