Tools Needed for Measuring Vertical Blinds:

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil to mark and note your measurements
  • Worksheet to record your measurements
  • Ladder, if your windows are tall

Tips for Accurate Measurements

  • Make sure not to confuse width with height when writing down measurements, as this can result in a blind that does not fit properly.
  • If measuring multiple windows, never assume they are the same. Measure each window individually as small differences can affect the fit.

Measuring for Outside Recess

Measure the full area where you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, it is recommended that the blind overlaps the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on both sides.

The overlap at the bottom is up to personal preference, but make sure to allow space for obstacles such as radiators. Always use a steel tape measure, as cloth tapes can stretch or bend and give inaccurate results.

Measuring for Inside Recess

If you want the blind to sit inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the recess. Appropriate deductions will be made to ensure a perfect fit.

Measure in three places for both width and drop, and use the smallest measurement. Do not make your own deductions; these will be handled by the manufacturer. Use a metal tape measure for accurate results, as cloth tapes can stretch.

Ensure you have all the parts that come with your vertical blind before starting the installation.

Extra Equipment Needed:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allan key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • Pencil
  • Additional screws
  • Drill with appropriate bits
  • Cross-head screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix Installation

Position the brackets around 5cm from each end where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the remaining ones evenly across the length of the blind. Always ensure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.

Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and secure it by tightening the short screw at the front.

Top Fix Installation

Mark the measurements carefully and allow space for any obstacles, such as window handles that stick into the recess. Place the brackets around 10cm from each end to ensure clearance for handles. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the others evenly along the length. Always check that the fixings are suitable for the mounting surface.

Tilt the headrail and hook it into the bracket, then rotate until it clicks into place. To remove the headrail, press the bracket at the release point to free it.
