Tools you will need for measuring Roman blinds:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil to mark sizes
  • A worksheet to record measurements
  • A ladder if your windows are high

Tips for accurate measuring:

  • Keep width and height measurements separate. Mixing them up can result in a blind that does not fit.
  • Measure each window separately, even if they appear the same size. Small differences can affect how the blinds fit.

Outside Recess Measurement

If you want the blind to sit outside the window frame, measure the full area you want it to cover. To reduce light coming in at the edges, allow at least 70mm above the recess and 50mm on each side. The overlap at the bottom is your choice, but remember to consider radiators or other obstacles. Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes can bend or stretch and give inaccurate results.

Inside Recess Measurement

If you prefer the blind to fit inside the frame, measure the exact width and height of the recess (the opening). We will make the necessary allowances to ensure the blind fits neatly. Take three measurements across the width and height, then use the smallest. Do not make any adjustments yourself, as we will do this to guarantee the best fit. A metal tape is recommended for accuracy.

Please make sure you have the following items that come with your blind:

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chain x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Weight x1

Extra tools you will need:

  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with the correct bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix Installation

  • Position the brackets about 5cm from each end of the headrail. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the extras evenly across the length of the blind. Ensure the fixings are suitable for the surface where you are attaching them.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the brackets, rotate it into place, and secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of each bracket.

Top Fix Installation

  • Mark and measure carefully, making sure to avoid handles or anything that may get in the way. Place the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail. If extra brackets are included, space them evenly across the length of the blind. Check that the fixings are suitable for your wall or ceiling surface.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the brackets, then rotate it into place until you hear a click. To release the headrail, press the bracket at the marked point.
