Tools You Will Need to Measure Vertical Blinds:

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil to mark and record your measurements
  • Worksheet to note your findings
  • Ladder for tall windows

Tips for Accurate Measurement

  • Ensure that height and width measurements are not mixed up, as this may lead to a blind that does not fit.
  • When measuring more than one window, do not assume they are the same size. Measure each window individually, as even small differences can affect the fit.

Measuring for Outside Recess

Measure the area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, it is recommended that the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.

The bottom overlap is optional, but remember to allow for obstacles like radiators. Use a metal tape measure, as cloth ones can stretch and give inaccurate readings.

Measuring for Inside Recess

If you want the blind to sit inside the window recess, measure the full width and height of the recess. The manufacturer will make the required adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.

Take measurements in three places for both width and drop, and use the smallest measurement. Do not make your own deductions. Always use a metal tape measure to avoid inaccuracies.

Before starting, make sure you have all the components supplied with your vertical blind.

Extra Equipment You Will Need:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allan key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • Pencil
  • Extra screws
  • Drill with correct bits
  • Cross-head screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix Installation

Position the brackets approximately 5cm from the ends of the headrail. If more than two brackets are supplied, space the remaining brackets evenly along the length. Make sure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.

Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into position, and secure it by tightening the short screw at the front.

Top Fix Installation

Mark the measurements carefully to allow room for obstacles such as window handles. Position the brackets about 10cm from the ends of the headrail. If there are more than two brackets, space the additional brackets evenly along the length. Ensure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.

Tilt the headrail and hook it into the bracket, then rotate until it clicks into place. To remove the headrail, press the bracket at the release point.
