Make sure you do not mix up height and width when recording your measurements, as this could cause a blind that does not fit. If you are measuring more than one window, do not assume they are all the same size. Measure each one separately and write down the results because even small differences can affect how the blind sits.
Measure the exact size of the space you want the blind to cover. To cut down on light seeping through, the blind should extend at least 70mm above the recess and 50mm at each side. The length below the window is up to you, but remember to allow for obstacles such as radiators. Always use a metal tape measure, as fabric ones can stretch or bend and give the wrong result.
Choose this method if you want the blind to sit inside the window opening. Measure the full width and height of the recess (the opening space itself). The required adjustments will be made to make sure the blind fits perfectly.
Measure three times across both the width and the drop, and use the smallest numbers you get. Do not take off any size yourself as this will be done during the making process. Again, always use a steel tape measure for accuracy.
Check that you have all the fittings that come with your vertical blind.
Extra items you may need during fitting include:
Position the brackets around 5cm from both ends where the headrail will sit. If you have more than two brackets, space the extra ones evenly across the rail. Always check that the fixings are suitable for the type of surface or wall you are mounting to.
To attach, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and turn the rail into place. Tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket to secure it firmly.
First measure and mark the area, allowing space for handles or other fittings that stick out into the recess. Place the brackets around 10cm from each end of the headrail to make sure the blind clears any window handles. If you have more than two brackets, space them evenly across the rail. Always confirm the fixings are suitable for the wall or ceiling type.
To fit, tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket and then rotate it until it clicks into position. To remove the headrail, simply press the bracket release point.
