Tools You Will Need:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and recording sizes
  • A worksheet to note your measurements
  • A ladder for taller windows, if needed

Helpful Tips for Accurate Measurements:

  • Do not confuse width with height when recording your results, as mixing them may result in a blind that does not fit properly.
  • If measuring multiple windows, check each one separately rather than assuming they are identical. Even small differences can affect the way blinds fit.

Measuring Outside the Recess

Measure the exact space that you would like the blind to cover. To reduce light leakage, it is advised that the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm at each side. The overlap at the bottom is up to your personal preference, but remember to take into account any obstructions such as radiators. Always use a metal tape measure, as fabric ones can bend or stretch and may cause inaccurate readings.

Measuring Inside the Recess

Choose this option if you would like the blind to fit inside the window recess. Measure the total width and height of the recess (essentially the size of the opening). Adjustments will then be made to guarantee a proper fit. Take three measurements across both the width and the drop, and use the smallest sizes recorded. Do not make any deductions yourself, as these will be carried out to ensure your blind fits exactly. Always use a metal tape measure for accuracy, as cloth ones can stretch.

When fitting your blind, ensure that the following items are available:

  • Top fix brackets (x2)
  • Face fix brackets (x2)
  • Hangers (x1)
  • Allen key (x1)
  • Stabilising chains (x2)
  • Safety hook (x1)
  • Wood screws (x4)
  • Bottom weight (x1)
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct drill bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix Installation

Position the brackets around 5cm from each end of where the headrail will be placed. If more than two brackets are included, install the extras evenly along the headrail for balanced support. Make sure that the fixings used are suitable for the type of surface or wall. To secure the blind, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and then tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix Installation

Mark the position carefully, allowing enough clearance for any features such as handles that extend into the recess. The brackets should be fixed around 10cm from each end of the headrail position to give space for the window handle. If more than two brackets are included, fit the additional brackets evenly along the length of the blind. Check that all fixings are correct for the surface used. To fit the blind, tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate it until it clicks securely. To remove, press the release section on the bracket.
