Tools You Will Need to Measure for Vertical Blinds

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil for marking and noting measurements
  • Worksheet to record findings
  • Ladder (if needed for taller windows)

Tips for Accurate Measurements

  • Keep height and width measurements separate to avoid mistakes that could lead to blinds not fitting.
  • If measuring more than one window, do not assume they are the same size. Measure each window individually. Small differences can greatly affect how the blinds fit.

Outside Recess

  • Measure the area where you want the blind to overlap. To reduce light gaps, we recommend the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.
  • The bottom overlap is up to you, but consider any obstacles such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes may stretch or bend, causing incorrect measurements.

Inside Recess

  • Measure the full width and height of the window recess if you want the blind to fit inside it. We will make the necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Take three measurements for both width and drop, using the smallest figures.
  • Do not make any deductions yourself; we will adjust them for an accurate fit.
  • Again, use a metal tape measure to avoid errors from stretching cloth tapes.

Before starting, ensure you have all parts that come with your vertical blind.

Extra Equipment You Will Need

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chain x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Weight x1
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

  • Place the brackets roughly 5cm from each end where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are supplied, space additional brackets evenly across the blind’s length. Ensure fixings are suitable for the wall or surface.
  • Hook the headrail onto the brackets and rotate it into place. Secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of each bracket.

Top Fix

  • Measure and mark the area, allowing for any obstacles such as window handles.
  • Position the brackets about 10cm from the ends to avoid interference with window handles. Additional brackets should be evenly spaced if supplied. Make sure fixings suit the wall or surface.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the brackets, then rotate until it clicks. To release the headrail, press the bracket at the designated point.
