Tools You Will Need to Measure Vertical Blinds

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Pencil to mark and record your figures
  • Worksheet to note down results
  • Ladder for higher windows if needed

Tips for Accurate Measuring

Do not mix up height and width when writing down your measurements, as this can cause the blind not to fit. If you are measuring more than one window, do not assume they are all the same. Measure each one separately and write the results clearly. Even small differences can change the way the blind fits.

Outside Recess

Measure the full area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light leakage, the blind should overlap the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm at both sides. How far it extends at the bottom is your choice, but keep in mind any obstacles such as radiators. Always use a steel tape measure, as cloth tapes can stretch or bend and give the wrong result.

Inside Recess

Choose this option if you want the blind to fit inside the recess space. Measure the complete width and height of the recess (the full opening). Adjustments will then be made during production to ensure the blind fits properly.

Take three measurements for both width and drop, then use the smallest numbers. Do not make any deductions yourself, as these will be carried out for accuracy. Always use a steel measuring tape for the best results.

Please check that you have all the parts supplied with your vertical blind.

Extra equipment you will need for the process includes:

  • Top fix brackets (x2)
  • Face fix brackets (x2)
  • Hangers (x1)
  • Allen key (x1)
  • Stabilising chains (x2)
  • Safety hook (x1)
  • Wood screws (x4)
  • Weights (x1)
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with the correct bits
  • Cross-head screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix

Fix the brackets about 5cm from both ends where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are included, space them evenly along the rail. Always check that the fixings are right for the wall or surface you are fitting them to.

Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, then tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket to hold it firmly.

Top Fix

Mark and measure the area carefully, leaving space for any window handles or fittings that project into the recess. Place the brackets roughly 10cm from each end of the headrail so that the blind clears the window handles. If more than two brackets are included, space them evenly across the rail. Make sure the fixings are correct for the surface you are attaching them to.

Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate until it clicks securely. To remove the headrail, press the release point on the bracket.
