Tools you will need for measuring your blinds:

  • A strong steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and writing down sizes
  • A worksheet or sheet of paper to keep track of measurements
  • A ladder if the windows are high

Helpful tips for accurate measuring:

  • Do not confuse width with height. Mixing these up could result in blinds that will not fit correctly.

When measuring more than one window, do not assume they are the same size. Measure each window separately, as even the smallest difference can affect the fit.

  • For an outside recess, measure the full area you want the blind to cover. To help reduce light entering through the gaps, allow at least 70mm overlap at the top and 50mm on each side. The overlap at the bottom depends on your preference, but always check for obstructions such as radiators. Always use a steel tape measure, as fabric ones may bend or stretch and give incorrect results.
  • For an inside recess, measure the full width and height of the opening. Take three measurements across both the width and the drop, then use the smallest figures. Do not make your own reductions, as these will be adjusted for you to guarantee a perfect fit. Again, use a steel tape measure for accuracy.

When setting up your vertical blind, make sure the following items are included in the pack:

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chain x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Weight x1
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with correct drill bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Steel tape measure

Face Fix

Place the brackets around 5cm from each end of where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are supplied, position the extras evenly across the width of the blind. Ensure the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface. To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and secure it by tightening the small screw at the front of the bracket.

Top Fix

Mark and measure carefully, allowing space for any obstacles such as handles that extend into the recess. Position the brackets roughly 10cm from each end of the headrail area. If extra brackets are supplied, fit them at equal spacing along the rail. Check the fixings are suitable for the chosen surface. To install, tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket until it clicks firmly into place. To remove it, simply press the bracket to release the rail.
