Tools You Will Need to Measure Vertical Blinds:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil to note your sizes
  • A worksheet for recording measurements
  • A ladder for high or tall windows

Tips for Accurate Measuring:

  • Do not mix up width and height measurements, as switching them can result in blinds that do not fit correctly.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, check each individually. Never assume they are the same, as even minor variations can affect the fit.
  • For an outside recess, measure the full area you would like the blind to cover. To help reduce light gaps, it is recommended that the blind overlaps the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on both sides.
  • The amount of overlap at the bottom is up to you, but always keep in mind possible obstructions such as radiators.
  • Always use a steel tape measure, since fabric ones can stretch or bend and lead to incorrect results.

Inside Recess:

  • Use this method if you want the blind to sit neatly inside the window recess. Measure the total width and height of the recess (the complete opening), and we will make the necessary adjustments to ensure a correct fit.
  • Take three separate measurements for both width and drop, then record the smallest figure.
  • Do not make deductions yourself, as we will do this for you so the blind is properly sized.
  • Again, use a steel tape measure for accuracy, as cloth types may not give correct figures.

Before starting, make sure you have all the parts that come with your vertical blind.

Extra Equipment You May Need:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with the correct drill bits
  • A crosshead screwdriver
  • A steel tape measure

Face Fix:

  • Position the brackets around 5cm from each end where the headrail will sit. If more than two brackets are supplied, place the extras evenly across the length of the blind. Always check that the fixings are suitable for the wall or surface you are working on.
  • To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and then tighten the small screw at the front of the bracket to lock it securely.

Top Fix:

  • First, measure and mark the fitting positions carefully, allowing space for obstructions such as window handles inside the recess. Position the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail to ensure clearance. If you have more than two brackets, space them evenly along the headrail. Again, check that your fixings are suitable for the surface.
  • Tilt the headrail, hook it into the bracket, and rotate it until it clicks securely into place. To remove it, press the release point on the bracket.
