Tools You Will Need to Measure Your Blinds

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and recording measurements
  • A worksheet or notebook to note down your findings
  • A ladder if your windows are tall

Tips for Accurate Measuring:

  • Always keep height and width measurements separate, as swapping them can result in blinds that do not fit.
  • If you are measuring more than one window, measure each one individually. Windows may vary slightly, and even small differences can affect the fit.

Outside Recess Measurement

  • Measure the exact area you want the blind to cover. For minimal light leakage, allow the blind to extend at least 70mm above the window recess and 50mm on each side.
  • The bottom overlap is optional, but consider obstacles such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure; fabric tapes may stretch or bend, giving inaccurate results.

Inside Recess Measurement

  • This is required if the blind is to fit inside the window frame. Measure the full width and height of the recess, and the manufacturer will make the necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Take measurements in three places for both width and drop, and use the smallest numbers.
  • Do not make any deductions yourself; these will be done by the manufacturer.
  • Use a metal tape measure, as cloth tapes may stretch and provide incorrect results.

Before starting, make sure you have all the parts that come with your blind.

Extra Equipment You Will Need:

  • Top fix brackets x2
  • Face fix brackets x2
  • Hangers x1
  • Allen key x1
  • Stabilising chains x2
  • Safety hook x1
  • Wood screws x4
  • Blind weight x1
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Drill with suitable bits
  • Crosshead screwdriver
  • Metal tape measure

Face Fix Installation

  • Position the brackets approximately 5cm from each end of the headrail. If there are additional brackets, space them evenly across the length of the blind. Ensure the fixings are suitable for your wall or surface.
  • Hook the back of the headrail into the bracket and rotate it into position. Secure the headrail by tightening the small screw on the front of the bracket.

Top Fix Installation

  • Measure and mark the placement of the brackets, making sure to allow for obstacles like window handles. Place the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail to avoid any handles. Additional brackets should be spaced evenly. Ensure the fixings are appropriate for your wall or ceiling.
  • Tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place until it clicks. To remove the headrail, press the bracket at the designated point.
