Tools You Will Need:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil to note down measurements
  • A worksheet for recording results
  • A ladder, if you need to measure tall windows

Tips for Accurate Measuring:

  • Keep height and width measurements separate. Mixing them up may cause the blind not to fit.
  • Measure every window individually. Do not assume two windows are the same size, even if they look similar. Small differences can affect the way your blinds fit.

Measuring Outside the Recess

Measure the full area you want the blind to cover. To reduce light gaps, we recommend the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side.

The bottom overlap is up to you, but check for items such as radiators that may get in the way. Always use a steel tape measure, as cloth ones can stretch and give incorrect results.

Measuring Inside the Recess

If you want your blind to fit neatly inside the window space, measure the total width and height of the recess (the full opening). We will make the right deductions so your blind fits correctly.

Take three measurements for both width and drop. Use the smallest figure in each case.

Do not make any adjustments yourself; we will handle that for you. Again, use a steel tape for the most accurate results.

Before fitting your blind, make sure you have the following parts and tools:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • Weights as required
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with the right bits
  • A cross-head screwdriver
  • A steel tape measure

Face Fix

Position the brackets about 5cm from each end where the headrail will be fitted. If more than two brackets are provided, place the extras at even distances along the length of the blind. Make sure your fixings are right for the wall or surface.

To install, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it forward, and tighten the short screw at the front of the bracket to secure.

Top Fix

Mark out the area, making space for any obstructions such as window handles that stick out into the recess. Place the brackets about 10cm from each end of the headrail position to avoid hitting window openers. Extra brackets should be spaced evenly along the blind. Use fixings suitable for your wall or surface.

To install, tilt the headrail into the bracket and rotate it until it clicks in place. To remove, press the release point on the bracket.
