Tools you will need to measure your vertical blinds:

  • A steel measuring tape
  • A pencil for marking and noting measurements
  • A worksheet to record all dimensions
  • A ladder, if your windows are tall

Helpful tips for measuring accurately:

  • Do not confuse the height and width measurements, as mixing them up will cause the blind not to fit.
  • When measuring more than one window, do not assume they are all the same size. Take individual measurements for each one, as even small differences can affect the fitting.

Measuring for Outside Recess

  • Measure the full area you want the blind to cover.
  • To reduce light entering, we suggest the blind overlaps the recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm at each side.
  • The overlap at the bottom is your choice, but keep in mind any obstructions such as radiators.
  • Always use a metal tape measure, as fabric tape measures can bend or stretch and give wrong readings.

Measuring for Inside Recess

  • If you want your blind fitted inside the recess, measure the full width and height of the recess.
  • Take three measurements across the width and three across the drop. Use the smallest measurements for accuracy.
  • Do not make any deductions yourself. The manufacturer will make the necessary adjustments for a perfect fit.
  • Again, always use a metal tape measure for accuracy.

Please make sure you have all of the following items when fitting your vertical blind:

Extra equipment needed:

  • 2 top fix brackets
  • 2 face fix brackets
  • 1 set of hangers
  • 1 Allen key
  • 2 stabilising chains
  • 1 safety hook
  • 4 wood screws
  • 1 weight
  • A pencil
  • Screws
  • A drill with suitable bits
  • A cross-head screwdriver
  • A metal tape measure

Face Fix Installation

  • Position the brackets about 5cm from each end of where the headrail will sit.
  • If more than two brackets are provided, space them evenly along the length of the blind.
  • Make sure the fixings are suitable for the type of wall or surface.
  • To fit, hook the back of the headrail into the bracket, rotate it into place, and tighten the small screw at the front to secure it.

Top Fix Installation

  • Measure and mark carefully, especially if there are obstacles such as window handles that extend into the recess.
  • Place the brackets around 10cm from the ends of the headrail to avoid the handles.
  • If you are provided with more than two brackets, space them evenly across the length.
  • Always make sure the fixings are appropriate for the surface you are mounting them to.
  • To fit, tilt and hook the headrail into the bracket, then rotate until it clicks into place.
  • To remove the headrail, press the release point on the bracket.
